Origins and History
Nicros introduced our “real rock” product A.R.T.Wall™- (Advanced Rockwall Technology) to the industry in 1992. In our continued commitment to product improvements, we identified the need for shorter onsite install times when surveying general contractors and architects. In fact, install time was their prime concern. A Nicrolite™ climbing wall is fabricated in our shop and shipped in large pieces to the project site. By doing this, we have been able to reduce onsite installation time by 50% or more. This not only decreases the time and mess a regular climbing wall project would produce, but also provides the customer with an eye catching showpiece that is sure to excite climbers of all abilities. |
What is Nicrolite-HandSculpted™?
Nicrolite™ is made from a special fiberglass mixture that gives the product a “reel rock” look and texture. The reason Nicrolite™ can be installed much faster than most climbing wall products is our ability to pre-manufacture the entire wall at our facility. Once it has been fabricated, seamed, and embossed in our shop, it is broken down into sections. These sections allow for easy shipping. The wall is then delivered in pieces and reassembled back into the full climbing wall at your site. Nicrolite™, like A.R.T.Wall™, has the versatility to allow for climbing on the natural features (those that are molded from real rock) or using the bolt-on handholds. There are about 3 available locations for handhold installation per every 4 square foot.

What makes Nicrolite™ so great?
Nicrolite™ is the best “real rock” product for your time-sensitive project. It can be installed virtually anywhere inside or outdoors. The climbing wall surface is made of a lighter weight fiberglass to the standard GFRC products which enables Nicrolite™ to be used in applications that may have flooring weight restrictions, such as second floor mezzanines. Nicrolite™ is also custom-designed to fit operational needs or installation parameters desired for the particular project.

Surface and Features
Nicrolite™ looks, climbs and feels just like real rock. Nicrolite™ castings are molded from real rock (NOT HAND CARVED!). This “real rock” look, along with our special texture, gives Nicrolite™ projects the best look and feel in the industry.

Handholds
Nicrolite™ is molded and contains many natural climbable features as well as the ability to add modular handholds. All walls come with 1 modular hold per 3-4 square feet of climbing surface to get you started. Generally, you can place a handhold in 3-4 different places every 4 square feet of climbing wall. Nicros has over 1,500 handholds shapes to choose from to add to your wall in |
Feel
Nicrolite™ has enough texture to be able to smear and flag against, and it’s not super smooth like other competitor products. At the same time, it isn’t so abrasive that it shreds skin, should a climber fall and slide against it.

Construction
The Nicrolite™ climbing wall components are pre-built and delivered to the job site in a nearly finished state. |
The climbing surface of each component is constructed using fiberglass panels which have been molded from real rock features to create one of the most realistic looking climbing walls on the market. |
|
 |
The combination of this lighter weight fiberglass and an internal steel framework designed by a licensed structural engineer, enables Nicrolite™ to be used in applications that may have flooring weight restrictions, such as second floor mezzanines. |
Since Nicrolite™ is delivered in a nearly finished state, on-site installation time is drastically reduced and allows for this product to be installed around finished surfaces without creating the debris associated with most construction sites. |
|
Cost
Nicrolite™ costs, on average, about $70-$100 per square foot. Because Nicrolite™ can be installed much quicker than most climbing wall systems, there is potential for savings. This savings varies depending on the size and scope of the work; please call for more details. Even though the cost of a Nicrolite™ climbing wall may seem similar to other wall products in our line, the real savings will be actualized in the shorter overall project schedule. The shorter climbing wall construction time will allow other sub-contractors (flooring, painting, electrical) in that area, which contributes to the shorter overall project schedule. In practice, general contractors and architects will realize the benefit of the decreased onsite installation time to the overall project schedule. |
