Nicrolite-HandSculpted™
Climbing Wall System

Origins and History

Nicros introduced Nicrolite™, a fiberglass, "real rock looking" climbing wall system.  In our continued commitment to product improvements, we identified the need for a very similar product that was hand sculpted, and therefore completely customizable. A Nicrolite-HandSculpted climbing wall is fabricated in our shop and shipped in large pieces to the project site. By doing this, we have been able to reduce onsite installation time by 50% or more.  This provides the customer with an eye catching showpiece that is sure to excite climbers of all abilities.

What is Nicrolite-HandSculpted™?

Nicrolite-Handsculpted™ uses the same fiberglass substrate as Nicrolite™, but is faced in a concrete polymer which is then hand sculpted. Nicrolite-HandSculpted™, like Nicrolite™ and A.R.T.Wall™, has the versatility to allow for climbing on the hand sculpted features as well as using the bolt-on handholds. There are about 3 available locations for handhold installation per every 4 square foot.

Nicros Nicrolite Hand Sculpted Wall Systems are similar to Entre Prises (EP) FreeForm, Eldorado REALRock, Eldorado SHOTRock, Rockwerx Natural Rock, and Rockwerx Sculpted Rock.

What makes Nicrolite- HandSculpted ™ so great?

Nicrolite-HandSculpted™ is the best looking product for your time-sensitive project. We are able to emulate many different types of rock features to include additional climbing features and appearance to your custom climbing wall.

Surface and Features

Nicrolite-HandSculpted™ looks, climbs and feels just like real rock. This “real rock” look, along with our special hand carved texture, gives Nicrolite™ projects the best look and feel in the industry.

Handholds

Nicrolite-HandSculpted™ is handcarved by our skilled workers and contains many climbable features as well as the ability to add modular handholds.  All walls come with 1 modular hold per 3-4 square feet of climbing surface to get you started.  Generally, you can place a handhold in 3-4 different places every 4 square feet of climbing wall.  Nicros has over 1,500 handholds shapes to choose from to add to your wall.

Feel

Nicrolite-HandSculpted ™ has enough texture to be able to smear and flag against, and it’s not super smooth like other competitor products. At the same time, it isn’t so abrasive that it shreds skin, should a climber fall and slide against it.

Construction

We custom sculpt each section in our shop and assemble the sections on-site with minimal impact to the facility. Each section is attached to a modular bolt-together frame or welded steel frame.
The climbing surface of each component is constructed using fiberglass which are coated in a concrete polymer and hand sculpted to create realistic rock features. This artistic sculpting allows us to create one of the most visually stunning climbing walls on the market.
The combination of this lighter weight fiberglass and an internal steel framework designed by a licensed structural engineer, enables Nicrolite-HandSculpted™ to be used in applications that may have flooring weight restrictions, such as second floor mezzanines.
Since Nicrolite-HandSculpted™ is delivered in a nearly finished state, on-site installation time is drastically reduced and allows for this product to be installed around finished surfaces without creating the debris associated with most construction sites.

Cost

Nicrolite-HandSculpted™ costs, on average, about $70-$100 per square foot.  Because Nicrolite-HandSculpted™ can be installed much quicker than most climbing wall systems, there is potential for savings. This savings varies depending on the size and scope of the work; please call for more details. Even though the cost of a Nicrolite-HandSculpted™ climbing wall may seem similar to other wall products in our line, the real savings will be actualized in the shorter overall project schedule. The shorter climbing wall construction time will allow other sub-contractors (flooring, painting, electrical) in that area, which contributes to the shorter overall project schedule. In practice, general contractors and architects will realize the benefit of the decreased onsite installation time to the overall project schedule.
